The University of Miami recently hosted Cincinnati wide receiver Tony Johnson for a visit to Coral Gables. Programs such as Florida State, Kentucky and UCF have expressed interest in adding him to their rosters. A return to his home state could to be a point of emphasis for him during the recruitment process.

Johnson, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound receiver from Ocala, Florida, showcased his skills at Cincinnati last season, recording 48 receptions (3rd on the team) for 449 yards and a team-leading six receiving touchdowns. He lined up mostly in the slot position (77% of the time) and started eight out of 12 games last year. In games against Kansas State and UCF, he put up a career-high eight receptions.

Prior to his stint with the Bearcats, Johnson played two seasons at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), amassing 60 catches for 669 yards and seven touchdowns. Johnson began his career as an unranked walk-on and ended up becoming a key starter for the Owls. After redshirting his first season, he made the Conference USA All-freshman team logging 23 receptions and three touchdowns in 2022. In 2023, he was a nominee for the Burlsworth Award.

Johnson's visit to Miami is part of a recruiting effort by head coach Mario Cristobal to add wide receiver talent in the transfer portal. Notable visitors of other positions include NC State linebacker Kamal Bonner and kicker Bert Auburn out of Texas.

Keelan Marion, a wide receiver and All-American kick returner from BYU, visited Miami as well. Marion also has interest from Arizona State, SMU, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Trebor Pena out of Syracuse was also a WR that the Hurricanes were in play for but he recently committed to Penn State. Miami is losing their top six receivers from last season as well as their quarterback, Cam Ward and running back, Damien Martinez.
