University of Miami redshirt freshman kicker Abram Murray has entered the NCAA transfer portal, a move that shakes up the Hurricanes special teams depth chart ahead of the 2025 season.
Murray, a former four-star recruit from Shreveport, Louisiana, announced his decision on Monday. He appeared in two games during the 2024 season, converting a 38-yard field goal and going 4-for-4 on extra point attempts. He redshirted the season after serving as the primary backup to veteran kicker Andres Borregales.
Murray made a post on X thanking Miami for his time with the program. "Thank you Miami," Murray said. "Thank you for making me the first kicker offered in 2024. Thank you for being the first of 10 offers. Thank you for letting me learn from the best kicker in the draft. Thank you. I loved my time in Coral Gables and will always value my time in the 305. For all the coaches especially Coach Maalouf thank you. I am entering the portal with 4 full years of eligibility."

Murray was highly touted coming out of C.E. Byrd High School, ranked as the No. 4 kicker nationally by 247Sports and No. 6 by Kohl’s Kicking. He committed to Miami in July 2022 and was expected to compete for the starting job following Borregales’ departure. He was the longest commit in the 2024 class but after this past spring, he felt like a change of scenery was necessary.
The Hurricanes added Florida Atlantic transfer Carter Davis during the offseason. Davis is known for his strong leg (two 50-plus yard field goals made) and 81% touchback (46 of 61 kickoffs) rate on kickoffs. He appeared to have won the starting role during spring practices. Despite the recent devlopments, Davis was just 4 for 11 on field goals at FAU. He was perfect on 23 extra points last season, though.
With Murray’s departure, Davis is now the frontrunner to handle kicking duties in 2025. The Hurricanes may also explore additional options in the transfer portal to help depth at the kicker position.
