The Miami Hurricanes have secured a commitment from Cincinnati transfer wide receiver Tony Johnson. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound senior announced his decision to join the Hurricanes on Tuesday.
Johnson, an Ocala, Florida native, has amassed 108 receptions for 1,118 yards and 13 touchdowns over his collegiate career, which includes stints at Florida Atlantic and Cincinnati. In the 2024 season with the Bearcats, he recorded 48 catches for 449 yards and six touchdowns.

Prior to Cincinnati, Johnson spent three years with the Owls where he had modest production. In his first season he ended up appearing in just one game and decided to take his redshirt. Johnson's sophomore year saw an increase in opportunity where he was able to haul in 23 receptions for 258 yards and three touchdowns. In his final season at FAU he continued to improve, even after the Owls moved from Conference USA to the AAC. Johnson recorded 37 catches for 411 yards and four touchdowns in 2023.
His decision to transfer to Miami comes after a competitive recruitment, with programs like Kentucky and Florida State also expressing strong interest. FSU landed WR Hykeem Williams which was a player that Miami also had some interest in. Johnson is expected to provide an immediate boost to Miami's offense, becoming a seasoned target for Carson Beck who transferred in this past offseason.
With one year of eligibility remaining, Johnson aims to make a significant impact in a Power 4 conference to help his NFL draft stock. As of right now, every player on Miami that declared for the 2025 Draft — except for TE Cam McCormick — either got drafted, signed a UDFA contract, or received an invite to rookie camp/mini camp. If Johnson has another productive season and plays his cards right, he could hear his name called in the 2026 NFL Draft.
