Losing a veteran playmaker is one thing, but seeing him go off to an ACC foe is not what Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes were hoping to see this winter. That's exactly what happened with linebacker Raul Aguirre Jr., who surprised many when he announced he was transferring.

On Sunday night, though, things were made a bit worse when it was revealed that the 'backer has decided to sign with NC State. So, he's staying in the ACC after all, but with a different program? That's exactly what's happening here:

Former Miami LB Raul Aguirre Jr. will transfer to North Carolina State
The hope was that Aguirre would push for a starting role next campaign in Coral Gables, but it sure wasn't going to be easy for him to be an every-down player. Because of that, it may have opened the door for him to look elsewhere for more playing time.
Keep in mind that his brother is also going to be with the Wolfpack next season, so that could have also played a big role in his decision to make the move to Raleigh. This past fall and winter for Miami and defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman, the 6-2, 235-pounder posted 43 total tackles and one pass deflection.
For his Miami career, Aguirre finished with 77 tackles, one pass deflection and one sack. He wasn't a superstar by any means, but he was consistent when he was on the field and he played the game the right way. He signed with Miami in 2023 as a 4-star prospect.
Elsewhere at linebacker, however, it was confirmed that Mohamed Toure will be back next fall, marking his eighth year in college. Keep in mind that he has suffered multiple serious knee injuries, opening the door for one last season with Miami. He'll look to make a big-time impact for Cristobal, while Aguirre will be hoping to turn heads elsewhere with NC State.
