Miami on verge of doubling 2028 recruiting class with a pair of in-state recruits

The Miami Hurricanes might be on the verge of adding some new faces to the 2028 recruiting class. 

Mario Cristobal and staff are still making a ton of noise in their efforts to add more elite talent to the 2027 class, but the Hurricanes are also building what's expected to be another strong group for the 2028 cycle. 

Many of the major targets, like five-star wide receiver Brysen Wright and five-star defensive end Asher Ghioto, will probably take their time with their recruitment. Miami is being predicted to land a couple of in-state prospects that could commit sooner than later — four-star wide receiver Tromon Isaac and four-star linebacker/safety Gabriel Player.

Both players have been predicted to join the Hurricanes by Rivals/On3 Miami site writer EJ Holland. The Rivals/On3 predictor backs up his choices by giving Miami a 94.4% chance to land Isaac and a 94% chance to get Player's commitment.

Miami is trending for two blue-chip, in-state prospects

Isaac is a local recruit that plays at Chaminade-Madonna in Hollywood. Of course, any time fans think about a wide receiver from that high school, Jeremiah Smith is the first name that pops in their heads. Isaac is a little smaller, listed at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, and might be more of a slot player at the next level.

The 247Sports Composite has Isaac as the No. 87 overall prospect and 12th-best receiver in his class. Miami has been after Isaac for a while, offering him in June 2024. His recruitment has picked up more this year with Oklahoma, Notre Dame, USC, Florida and Texas all extending offers in the past few months.

Player is a standout at Eau Gallie High School in Melbourne, Florida. He is also a top-100 overall prospect, coming in at 93rd on the 247Sports Composite, and is the sixth-best linebacker recruit in the country. Miami offered him in late February, and he was at the Legends Camp in June where he told Trinton Breeze from CanesInSight that the Hurricanes were coming on strong. 

"I have a really good relationship with everyone down there. They have shown me love from the beginning. They seem extremely genuine, which I love," he said. "The things that stood out to me about Miami are that they are playing at the highest level right now, and they develop their players."

Player is a long athlete, listed at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. He could end up being a big safety, but he'll likely put much more weight on and become a full-time linebacker or even a situational edge rusher. 

The Hurricanes have two commits in the 2028 class, and you know Cristobal would love to raise that number to around 10 before the end of the season. Four-star offensive lineman Kweli Fielder and three-star quarterback Knox Annis are the current commits.
