Miami completely dominated Missouri inside and pulled away late in an 80-66 NCAA Tournament First Round win on Friday night in St. Louis. After shooting two of his first 10 in the first half, Miami forward Malik Reneau got rolling in the second half for the Hurricanes.
Miami out-rebounded Missouri 46 to 30, had 16 offensive boards to seven for Missouri and out-scored the Tigers 19 to two in second-chance points. The Miami physicality set the foundation for the game and played a significant role as the Hurricanes advanced to the second round.
Reneau took over in the second half after scoring five points in the opening 20 minutes. In the second half, Reneau scored 19 points, made five of his six shots from the field, both of his three-point attempts and seven out of nine from the free throw line to hold Miami outscore Missouri 53-40 in the second half.
Miami also received outstanding performances from Ernest Udeh with 10 rebounds, Shelton Henderson with 15 points and six boards and six Hurricanes finished with at least five rebounds. Point guard Tre Donaldson had 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Donaldson also had a big second half for Miami with 14 points, four rebounds and three assists while playing all 20 minutes. Shelton Henderson, Reneau and Udeh all played over 18 minutes in the second half as Miami head coach Jai Lucas rode those four.
Center Shawn Phillips Jr. and guard Jayden Stone led Missouri with six rebounds. The dominance from Miami inside and rebounding allowed the Hurricanes to hold Missouri to 35.1 percent shooting from the field. Miami also outscored Missouri 24-20 in points in the paint.
Miami will need to continue to be elite on the boards and play with physicality against a big Purdue team on Sunday. Henderson, Reneau and Udeh have given Miami one of the best defensive and physical front lines nationally in 2025-26.
