Miami lands in Gainesville Regional for NCAA Tournament
Florida enters the tournament as one of the top eight national seeds, which means the Gators would be in line to host a Super Regional if they win the Gainesville Regional. The top eight national seeds are UCLA, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Auburn, North Carolina, Texas, Alabama and Florida.
Miami and Florida already met in the regular season in Coral Gables, with the Gators winning 7-2 and 8-4 before the series finale was canceled.
Miami did enough in Charlotte to remove most of the drama from Selection Monday.
The Hurricanes reached the ACC Tournament semifinals after beating Stanford 11-2 and Boston College 8-2. Rob Evans threw seven innings against Stanford, allowed two earned runs and became Miami's first starting pitcher since Brian Van Belle in 2019 to reach 10 wins in a season.
That win was followed by another strong showing against Boston College, giving Miami two quality ACC wins before running into top-seeded Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets beat Miami 9-3 in the semifinal, using three two-run homers and three Miami errors to take control.
The NCAA Tournament begins with 16 four-team regionals, followed by best-of-three Super Regionals from June 5-8. The Men's College World Series starts June 12 at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.
