Last season was only the beginning for the Miami Hurricanes under Mario Cristobal. Getting back to a national championship game was huge for the program's overall upward trajectory. Miami normally does a great job on the recruiting trail, particularly in its South Floridian backyard. However, Miami has once again become en vogue when it comes to landing other elite prospects from all over the nation.
Gaby Urrutia of 247Sports crystal balled five different players to Miami recently. These are the five...
- 5-star offensive lineman Mark Matthews
- 4-star offensive tackle Joshua Sam-Epelle
- 5-star linebacker Kaden Henderson
- 3-star defensive lineman Josh Johnson
- 3-star safety Andre Hyppolite
To land any or all of these prospects would be quite instrumental in helping the Hurricanes sustain.

How many of these guys end up signing with the Canes?

Those players are five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson, four-star offensive tackle Joshua Sam-Epelle, three-star safety Andre Hyppolite, and three-star defensive lineman Josh Johnson. All but Sam-Epelle hail from Florida. Matthews and Hyppolite are local guys from Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Henderson is from Tampa and Johnson from Key West.
Henderson already got the ball rolling with his reaction to all these crystal balls earlier in the week...
Miami Hurricanes on the verge of landing five elite prospects for 2027
Cristobal is working with the right formula to not only build up, but sustain this Miami excellence. The Hurricanes must protect their territory in Brevard and Miami-Dade Counties, as well as see what else the rest of the state, southeast, and even the country can provide. Being this aggressive in pursuit of Henderson out of Tampa speaks volumes. Getting Sam-Epelle out of Greater Atlanta would be huge!
Overall, the big domino to fall here has to be Matthews. He would pair nicely with the other local product five-star who just recently committed in wide receiver Nick Lennear on 305 Day. Should Matthews follow Lennear's suit, then that may indicate that Henderson will be coming on his way from Tampa. It is still early in the recruiting process, but Miami is an avalanche, coming down the mountain.
Ultimately, we have seen Cristobal be incredibly reticent in recent months of saying Miami is The U again. The Hurricanes may be well on their way to approaching that threshold, even if they have already cleared it in most pundits' estimations. See, this is all about winning these precious recruiting battles in your own backyard. If Miami keeps on dominating South Florida, it will own college football.
For now, Miami is in a fantastic position to augment its entire recruting class in a big way here soon.
