The Miami Hurricanes could not keep up with the hot bats of UCF as they fall 14-4 in the midweek matchup at John Euliano Park on Tuesday night. After putting two runs on the board courtesy of an Andrew Williamson triple and Andrew Sundean single, Miami matched and took the lead in the top of the second inning with a Derek Williams two-run homer and a UCF error which brought Nolan Johnson home.

Unfortunately for Miami, that is where the scoring stopped until the sixth inning when Max Galvin tapped home base for the Hurricanes fourth and final run of the game. In between the time of their runs, UCF added four runs in the second inning, three runs in the third, and two runs in the fifth.

The Hurricanes had their chances in the game but were not able to capitalize. For the game, Miami went 2-for-11 (.182) with runners in scoring position and only batted 4-of-17 (.235) with runners on base.

Miami pitchers struggled against one of the best hitting teams in the country so far this season. Coming into the game, UCF was hitting .356 (1st in the nation) and during the game the Knights were 18-for-40 (.450). Every player in the starting lineup for the Knights registered a hit with Lex Boedicker having the best game of them all accounting for six RBI on four hits and a homerun.

In the loss, Miami had eight pitchers take the mound and none served longer than 1.2 innings. The starting pitcher for Miami, Alex Giroux, was tagged with the loss as he only pitched 1.1 innings and gave up six earned runs. Reese Lumpkin was the first pitcher out of the bullpen putting together just one inning and giving up two earned runs.

The Hurricanes were coming off a win on Sunday against the UConn Huskies. After their loss to the Knights, they will stay overnight in Orlando and make the trip to Winston-Salem, NC to take on Wake Forest.
