While Carson Beck was undeniably an exciting addition to the Canes' roster this offseason, the Miami quarterback has been as inconsistent as they get since joining the team.
With just over 2,800 passing yards, 22 passing touchdowns, and nine interceptions, alongside just 56 yards on the ground and one rushing touchdown, Beck hasn't exactly been the Heisman-worthy quarterback that the Miami Hurricanes were hoping for.
However, as the Canes continue to find their footing (kind of), the rest of the backfield isn't helping Beck out at all.
The run game might be the reason Miami misses the CFPs
Miami's RB1 Mark Fletcher Jr. has had a fairly decent career with 655 total rushing yards for nine touchdowns. However, those yards were earned on a whopping 131 carries, averaging just five yards per rush attempt, and he is clearly exhausted.
While head coach Mario Cristobal has built an impressive offensive line for the Canes, it simply hasn't been enough to carry Beck and his running backs to the dominant season they thought they would have just a few months ago.
CharMar Brown and Girard Pringle Jr., the Hurricanes' RB2 and RB3, have combined for less than 700 yards over the first 11 games of the season, adding a lackluster second-string option for the offense.
Beck needs much more help than he has in the backfield, or he is truly on a crash course as the regular season draws toward its conclusion and the postseason rapidly approaches.
Just last weekend, as Miami took down the Virginia Tech Hokies in less than resounding fashion, the Canes averaged just 2.8 yards per carry, a far cry even from the less-than-ideal season average for the running core.
National college football writers aren't optimistic about the Hurricanes figuring out their running woes before this Saturday, especially as they take on the Pitt Panthers, who are coming off an incredible 42-28 win over the then-No. 16 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
On Saturday, Nov. 29, the Panthers and the No. 13 Hurricanes are scheduled to kick off at noon ET, and their final regular-season game of the year will be broadcast on ABC.
