It's truly getting hard to believe what some transfer portal quarterbacks are getting offered these days. Plenty of Miami Hurricanes football fans are still talking about Carson Beck getting around $4 million to suit up for Mario Cristobal next campaign.
Would you believe it if we told you that might end up looking like a bargain? Earlier this week, Texas signal-caller Quinn Ewers declared for the NFL Draft, but there were some rumblings he might return for one final college season.
According to 247Sports' Chip Brown, an unnamed program offered Ewers an NIL deal worth $8 million. What?! That's right, per Brown, there was a team so desperate for a new signal-caller that they were ready to have Ewers making double what Beck will be getting in Coral Gables. Goodness:
Quarterback Quinn Ewers reportedly turned down an $8 million NIL offer
Again, some of the numbers being thrown out for quarterbacks are truly unreal. Ewers is a stud quarterback, don't get us wrong, but on which planet is he deserving of that kind of money to play at this level? He'll be getting that and more in the NFL, which is just fine.
However, there's absolutely no reason for a college quarterback to be flirting with $10 million for a season. Is this the direction NIL deals for QBs are heading? We sure hope not. As for Beck and Miami, this is something they don't have to worry about.
Beck surprised a lot of people when he decided to enter the transfer portal. Georgia wanted him back, while Alabama was ready to make a move to bring him in too. However, Cristobal and Co. were able to sell him on all the brilliant things going on in Miami.
It also helps that Cam Ward is coming off a record-breaking season for the Canes and he's on his way to potentially being taken with the No. 1 overall pick by the Tennessee Titans. Beck is hoping to help Miami get to the CFP in 2025. Ewers on the other hand will wait and see if he gets taken in the first round or not in late April.
