The ACC seems to be trying hard to keep Miami out of the Saturday spotlight

With game times released for the first month of the season, Miami will be on TV a lot, but not on college football's primary day

The Miami Hurricanes have released some more game times for the upcoming football season, and it's another reminder of how the ACC decided to keep its top draw off Saturdays for most of September.

Miami will host Florida A&M on Thursday night, September 10 at 8 p.m. on the ACC Network. Eight days later, the Hurricanes will travel to Wake Forest on Friday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. ESPN and eight days after that they will be home for a game against Central Michigan on Saturday, September 26 at 6:30 p.m on the CW Network.

Game times for Miami's September schedule have been released.

The Hurricanes will start the season on Friday night, September 4 at Stanford at 9 p.m. on ESPN, and they will have a short week to come back across the country for the Rattlers before consecutive weeks with an extra day for a road game to Winston-Salem, North Carolina and a home game against the Chippewas. Things will stabilize in October and November with Saturday night games throughout, including the annual showdown against Florida State on October 17 and the already-announced primetime clash with Notre Dame on November 7.

It's a weird schedule and the ACC is in a funky place right now because they are trying to establish Friday nights as their showcase night, but that doesn't necessarily work out well for Miami. Around these parts, Friday night is for high school football and Miami-Dade County takes its high school football very seriously. It's a bit of a handicap for Mario Cristobal and the staff to not be able to watch potential targets on Friday nights and getting recruits to come out to a Thursday night game is a difficult ask as well.

The ACC should have Miami playing on Saturdays and only on Saturdays

Miami is the ACC's clearest gateway to college football relevancy. Clemson is down, and Florida State will be a horrible non-factor until they can Mike Norvell. So the conference needs to have the Hurricanes on Saturday afternoons and evenings, where they can demand some of that ESPN/ABC TV time that is being dominated by the SEC. It's also the best thing for discussion of the conference. No one talks about the Thursday night or Friday night games unless a major upset happens. The bulk of the college football discussion on Thursday and Fridays is what's going to happen on Saturday and if the Hurricanes aren't playing on Saturday, they are not in the discussion. And for the sake of the ACC, the Hurricanes need to be in the discussion every week.

The Hurricanes are going to be a top-10 team to start the season, and they should roll through this September schedule and move into or around the top five by the time October rolls around. If Clemson (October 3) and FSU get off to decent starts, those games could be the first chance for a national audience to see the Hurricanes in a favorable time slot on the day that college football is supposed to be played.
