It's traditions week at Canes Warning, but if there's anything that the Miami Hurricanes are known for, it's spitting in the face of traditions. Miami's reputation of being anti-establishment has forced us to make an adjustment and call this "anti-traditions" week.

There are a few things that the Hurricanes are known for, and we'll touch on those later, but not right now, because this is a list of rival traditions that Miami fans simply wish would go away:

The War Chant/tomahawk chop (FSU)

Let's not even get into the many reasons why this is completely wrong and just focus on how annoying it is. And to think of the fans still doing it while the Seminoles are out there stumbling to a 2-win and 5-win season with a coach they can't afford to fire. The whole thing just makes Miami fans laugh right now.

The best thing about this display is that the Hurricanes' players and fans love to make fun of it so much. Every time that Miami gets in the end zone against FSU, there's a good chance some of the players are going to mock the chop and chant.

The Gator chomp (Florida)

Talk about annoying....this almost makes me not like the movie Jaws and who doesn't like Jaws!?! It's a great movie and the shark wins most of the battles. That's something the Gators can't say, given how many times the Hurricanes have dragged them up and down the field. Miami beat Florida so badly in the 1980s that the program ended the series.

Enter Sandman (Virginia Tech)

OK, the entrance is kind of cool and the Metallica song is a hard rock staple, obviously, but the Hokies are 20-18 at Lane Stadium since 2020 and the Hurricanes have won four straight in Blacksburg. How much do these pre-game dramatics really help with home-field advantage when the team is barely .500 in front of their supporters?

Virginia Tech might get back to respectability under James Franklin, but right now, it should change the song to something more appropriate for their current situation, like Mr. Sandman.

Everything (Notre Dame)

From the Notre Dame Victory March fight song, to the 'Play like a Champion' sign in the locker room that they stole from Oklahoma, to the goofy leprechaun hanging out on the sidelines. It's going to be a joy to beat the Irish on their own field under the bright lights on November 7.

Everything Notre Dame does speaks to a desire to return to the 1930s when it was stumbling around in leather helmets running the single wing. Like most college football traditions, Notre Dame's shtick is better left in the past.
