There was a lot of speculation that Oklahoma defensive tackle David Stone would strongly consider Miami after entering the transfer portal on Friday. Stone chose to stay at Oklahoma on Sunday after barely being in the transfer portal for 48 hours. Where does Miami go next in searching for a transfer DT?

Boise State defensive lineman Braxton Fely could be the name to watch for Miami. Fely is visiting Miami on Tuesday and is down to a top six of California, Georgia Tech, Mississippi, TCU and Texas A&M, per Pete Nakos of On3. Fely played 1,202 defensive snaps in his college career with 43 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks.

Bernard Gooden from South Florida, Akelo Stone from Mississippi and Kody Huisman from North Dakota State are three-star DL who have entered the transfer portal in the last two days. Akelo Stone entered the transfer portal from Mississippi on Sunday and has a four-star grade from 247Sports.

Gooden had 42 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, 2.0 pass breakups and 2.0 fumble recoveries in one season at Wake Forest and two at South Florida. Gooden had by far his best season in 2024 with 35 tackles, 10.5 TFLs, 1.5 sacks and both PBUs and fumble recoveries with a run defense grade of 82.5.

In three seasons at Georgia Tech and two with Mississippi, Stone had 59 tackles, 12.0 TFLs, 6.0 sacks, 3.0 passes defended and 1.0 forced fumble. Stone was primarily a rotational player at Mississippi, with a 73.3 Pro Football Focus grade in 2024 on nearly 200 snaps.

Huisman has a do not contact tag per Brendan Sonnone of 247Sports. In 45 career games with North Dakota State, Huisman had 73 tackles,12.5 TFLs, 3.5 sacks, 1.0 pass defended and 2.0 forced fumbles with an 88 PFF grade against the run.

Miami defensive tackle Joshua Horton, who announced his transfer to Georgia on Sunday, is the 700th-ranked player overall in the portal by On3. Chiozie Nwanko from Colorado, Alexander Whitmore from UNLV, Christopher Botti from Liberty, Fely and eight other uncommitted DTs currently in the transfer portal rank ahead of Horton.

Miami has more than a dozen transfer DTs to choose from to add a player to compete to be a starter or at least add depth to its 2025 roster. Louisiana Tech transfer DT David Blay, who committed to Miami during the winter portal and 2024 five-star signee Justin Scott currently project as the Hurricanes' starting DTs in 2025.
