4 remaining 2027 prospects that Mario Cristobal and Miami are continuing to recruit

There's still a little left for the Hurricanes before completely turning the page to 2028

Rather than host any official visits this weekend, Mario Cristobal and the Miami Hurricanes staff decided to focus on getting the 2027 recruiting class together for one last celebration (and some workouts) before the summer dead period.

Although the No. 2-ranked class is pretty set at 19 commitments, there are still at least a couple of major targets that Cristobal would make room for and, depending on how the numbers work out, there could be a surprise addition or two that emerge in the fall. Here's who might be left on the board for 2027:

4-star WR Eli Woodard (uncommitted)

Woodard is the last uncommitted target that the Hurricanes are heavily recruiting. After backing away from his pledge to USC, Woodard began trending for Miami. He took his official visit to Coral Gables on the weekend of May 29, but did not make a commitment. Since then, he has taken an official visit to Cal and is currently in Los Angeles visiting UCLA. The Hurricanes staff has made Woodward a major priority and would be happy to close the class out with him. At this point, the decision will simply come down to whether Woodard wants to leave his home state of California or not.

5-star OT Mark Matthews (Texas A&M commit)

There was still optimism that Matthews would still entertain Miami's efforts to recruit him even after he committed to the Aggies on May 15, but the St. Thomas Aquinas product has been in College Station for most of the weekends during the official visit season. It's hard to see Miami getting back into this recruitment, and it seems like the staff has moved on. We'll see what happens in the fall when Matthews is playing 30 minutes from campus and could end up taking in a Hurricanes game.

4-star WR Julius Jones (uncommitted)

Jones, who is Matthews' teammate at St. Thomas Aquinas, did take an official visit to Coral Gables on May 29, but it was going to be an uphill battle to convince the son of the former Notre Dame standout running back of the same name not to be part of the legacy in South Bend. The younger Jones is in South Bend on his official visit this weekend and the belief is that's where he will eventually end up.

5-star EDGE DJ Jacobs (Ohio State commit)

Jacobs seemed to re-affirm his commitment to the Buckeyes during his mid-week official visit, but who knows what he's going to do in the fall. I think Cristobal still seems an opening there, so Miami will continue to keep tabs on him, but there's also a belief that the edge rushing class is set with Jaiden Bryant, Jayvon Dawson and Demarcus Deroche in the fold. The assumption is the Hurricanes staff will continue to hold a spot for Jacobs and pick away at him hoping for a late-season surprise flip.
