Carson Beck transferred to Miami from Georgia hoping for a new start in an offense that is expected to fit his skill set better. Some projections before the 2024 season had Beck as the first pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Now, Beck will follow Cam Ward who is the projected first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Beck had an inconsistent season for Georgia in 2024. In the first three games in 2024, Beck threw seven touchdowns without an interception, had 10 TD passes and 12 interceptions in the next three games and then 11 TD passes without an interception over his last four games.
Miami needs a more complete season from Beck in 2025. Beck finished his Georgia career completing 68.0 percent of his passes for 7,912 yards, 58 TDs, 20 interceptions and a 156.4 passer rating. Beck finished 13th nationally in 2024, averaging 268.1 passing yards per game, 14th with 28 TD passes and completed 64.7 percent of his passes.
The Miami offense will look very different led by Beck in 2025. Miami lost its top six receivers from the 2024 season. Tight end Elijah Lofton leads the Miami returnees with 150 receiving yards on nine receptions with one TD in 2024. Running back Mark Fletcher Jr. leads the Miami returnees with 10 receptions for 106 yards.
"Carson Beck made a calculated decision when he removed himself from the 2025 NFL Draft and decided another year in college was best for him. He's looking for a career resurgence of sorts with coordinator Shannon Dawson and this Miami offense. There's a chance — if he cuts down on mistakes and poor decision-making — he could rise in the 2026 conversation for top players at the position. Miami's offense brought out the best in Cam Ward last fall. Could Beck see a similar rise?"Brad Crawford, 247Sports.
The list by Crawford also includes QBs Jackson Arnold, who transferred from Oklahoma to Auburn, Darian Mensah from Tulane to Duke and Zach Calzada from Incarnate Word and Auburn to Kentucky and John Mateer from Washington State to Oklahoma. Beck is the highest profile of the 10 transfers Crawford lists.
There will be a lot of scrutiny on Beck as he also rehabs from a torn UCL in his elbow. Dawson elevated Ward's play, made him into a Heisman Trophy finalist and the projected first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Beck will likely not have to perform at as high a level as Ward did in 2025.
Miami is projected to be much better defensively in 2025. Beck should perform more efficiently in 2025 with Miami improving defensively. For all the criticism of Beck, he still finished tied for 32nd nationally with Nico Iamaleava of Tennessee with a 145.34 passer rating.
Beck has a chance to leave a legacy similar to Ward. Miami took a big step forward as a program in 2024. The failure to make the ACC Championship Game and being left out of the College Football Playoff in 2024 leaves another goal for Miami to reach in 2025. If Miami accomplishes those goals, Beck will be a major reason.
