With Carson Beck’s transfer from Georgia to Miami, the quarterback room in Athens has officially entered a new era. But as Beck begins his next chapter, the reaction from his former teammate suggests a mix of respect, humor, and subtle jabs.

Gunner Stockton, now Georgia's projected starter, was asked Tuesday whether Beck had given him any heads-up about his plans to leave. Stockton smirked and replied, “He was busy,” according to Graham Coffey of Dawgs Central via On3. It was a sly, yet telling response; one that hinted at the whirlwind surrounding Beck’s offseason, which has included NIL opportunities and his well-publicized relationship with influencer and Miami basketball player, Hanna Cavinder.

Stockton went on to further elaborate in the same press conference on if Beck communicated with him about his decision to transfer. "Like everybody, I saw it (being reported)," Stockton said. It might be safe to say that the QB's weren't very close — but that's okay. It is like that in plenty of QB rooms across all levels of football.

Stockton isn’t new to the spotlight, having already taken meaningful snaps in the College Football Playoff. But with Beck gone, he’s expected to fully take the reins in 2025. Beck's departure follows a season where he threw for 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns, setting a career high in scores but also doubling his previous season’s interceptions with 12. His move to Miami is seen by many as an effort to reset and rebuild his NFL Draft stock, especially under offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson.

Beck’s offseason wasn’t without distraction. In addition to rumors of a breakup with Cavinder, reports emerged of a significant theft involving his luxury vehicles in Florida. Despite those headlines, the former Bulldog remains focused on being one of the best quarterbacks in college football heading into next season.
