Much has been said about the way the transfer portal closed out for Miami and Mario Cristobal. Obviously, the Canes bringing in superstar quarterback Darrian Mensah on a blockbuster deal made countless headlines, while breaking plenty of hearts in Durham.
Mario Cristobal looks to reel in five-star recruit that will add to Miami's legacy
Last season, Mensah played a massive role in the Blue Devils winning the ACC title, but he has packed his bags for the warm weather in Coral Gables. A massive blow for Duke, yes, but Manny Diaz and the Blue Devils now have some help officially on the way.
On Thursday, the news broke that San Jose State transfer Walker Eget has been granted an extra season and he'll be playing for Duke. Barring a shocker, he's expected to win the QB1 job and work to help the Blue Devils get some revenge on Miami. Obviously, that's going to be a tall task for him and his new teammates:

Veteran QB Walker Eget has officially been granted his 6th season to play for Duke
Eget originally committed to the Blue Devils and Diaz in January, but there was still a roadblock for him to suit up once Week 1 gets here later this year. With the news of the NCAA giving him the green light to play in 2026, it's an update that's being celebrated on Duke's campus, no doubt.
Meanwhile in Miami, Cristobal and the Canes are crushing it out on the recruiting trail, while spring ball is right around the corner. Mensah is going to want to put on a show during the limited upcoming sessions, with building chemistry with his new wideouts being a top priority.
The thought of Malachi Toney reeling in passes from Mensah has people fired up for next season to get here. We're going to get a preview of everything on both sides of the ball soon enough, while Eget and Duke are going to be excited to work to repeat as the conference champs. Miami will do what's needed to prevent that from happening. It goes without saying, but the Nov. 14 matchup between the two sides just got more interesting with Eget being good to go for '26 too.
