Even without a buyout, Miami's path to Bryce Underwood may come with a huge price tag

The Miami Hurricanes may have found their next quarterback in Michigan's Bryce Underwood but his price to play is far from cheap.

As Carson Beck sees the end of his collegiate eligibility come to an end, the Miami Hurricanes are, once again, having to look outward to find their next go-to guy in the backfield.

And, as luck would have it, the Michigan Wolverines are, once again, going through a scandal, and it has put the future of their young quarterback, Bryce Underwood, in the air.

So, as Miami head coach Mario Cristobal did just last year, the Canes have an opportunity to land a high-profile quarterback out of the transfer portal if Underwood decides to enter his name once the window opens.

Miami may land another starting QB from the portal

What's even luckier is that the unique contract Underwood signed with the Wolverines didn't include a buyout, so the Canes wouldn't have to shell out millions of dollars to recruit him to Miami before even looking at his possible NIL value.

However, while the team won't have to pay for Underwood to leave Michigan, the Hurricanes would undeniably have to be willing to shell out a large NIL deal for him to come to Miami, similar to their deal with Beck, if not even larger.

Underwood's current contract with the Wolverines is right around $10 or $12 million, not exactly pocket change, even for a big-time program like Miami.

The Canes just shelled out $4 million for Beck to come to Miami from the Georgia Bulldogs, and nearly tripling that price tag may not be in the program's best interest, especially when it comes to a quarterback who has just one mediocre season under his belt.

This season, Underwood earned just 2,299 passing yards, completing just 61.1 percent of his attempts, for nine touchdowns and six interceptions. He did, however, earn over 300 rushing yards for an additional five TDs on the ground as a dual-threat quarterback.

There are a lot of questions around Underwood, the Wolverines, and the future of both within the world of college football, but if the Hurricanes have their eyes on the young QB, they need to be ready to pay his lofty price.
