It's hard to put into words how great Miami wideout Malachi Toney looked last season. Were there some hiccups along the way for the baby-faced freshman? Sure, but his ability to respond to adversity was awesome and he's already getting Heisman Trophy hype leading up to next campaign.

And when he takes the field next season, it looks like he's saying goodbye to his old jersey number. Last season, Toney was tremendous in his No. 10, making countless plays for Carson Beck. Come next season, Darian Mensah will be scanning the field for the youngster, but he'll be targeting No. 1:
Malachi Toney confirmed on social media he's changing his jersey number
It may not seem like a huge deal for some, but it's safe to assume that Toney is pretty dang fired up about this switch. As you can see from his social media post, it looks like he can't wait to take the field showcasing his new number.
Last season as a true freshman, the local playmaker put on a show from start to finish - he posted 109 receptions for 1,211 yards and 10 touchdowns. He broke several Miami records, doing so in his first season of college eligibility. It's wild that Toney reclassified from the 2026 class to 2025 too.
Come next season, there's going to be a ton of pressure on Mensah to deliver for this team. With Beck off to the NFL Draft, Mario Cristobal and Co. broke the bank to bring in Mensah from Duke, the reigning ACC champs.
Mensah knows there's going to be a tall task to take over the offense for Beck, while also pushing for Miami to make another deep run in the College Football Playoff. He can rest easy knowing Toney will be back in Coral Gables and he's going to be jacked up to live up to the hype in '26. Those two building chemistry during spring ball is going to be incredibly important for the Canes moving forward.
