Sam Biller hit a decisive grand slam in a six-run Connecticut third inning and Oliver Pudvar allowed one run in five innings with five strikeouts as the Huskies earned a 7-2 upset win over Miami on Friday night in Coral Gables. Connecticut and Miami each had seven hits, but the grand slam was the difference on Friday night.
Connecticut scored first on Tyler Minick's RBI single. Ryan Daniels doubled Minick home to put UConn up 2-0. Two walks following the Daniels double set up Biller to basically put the game out of reach. Miami got on the board in the fourth inning when Tanner Smith singled home Jake Ogden.
Connor Lane singled home Adam Dougherty in the seventh inning to push UConn back in front by six. Max Galvin singled home Michael Torres in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull Miami within five again and close out the scoring. Miami did not seriously threaten in the eighth or ninth innings with single base runners in each inning.
Miami entered the series with UConn 11-3 and 31st in the RPI. Connecticut was 46th in the RPI and 2-7. Pudvar earned the win allowing five hits and one run with two walks and five strikeouts in five innings for his first win this season. Four UConn relievers allowed two hits and one run in four innings to preserve the win.
