Florida State scored three in the top of the first inning, never trailed and dominated Arizona to earn a 14-1 seven-inning run-rule win over Miami on Thursday night in Coral Gables in the first of a three-game series. Florida State starter Joey Volini earned a seven-inning complete game allowing two hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Starter Nick Robert pitched 3.2 innings allowing eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Tate DeRias and Rob Evans combined to allow another six earned runs for Miami in 3.1 innings. The only run for Miami scored on a Fabio Peralta HR in the third inning that cut the deficit to 3-1.
Williams hit a two-run HR and Myles Bailey had a solo shot to stake Florida State to the 3-0 first-inning lead. Florida State scored five runs in the fourth and three each in the sixth and seventh before Volini set Miami down in order in the seventh to earn the wins. Volini retired the last 13 Miami batters.
