The Miami Hurricanes secured a commitment from four-star dual-threat quarterback Dereon Coleman, a standout from Jones High School in Orlando, Florida, in the summer of 2024. Despite a barrage of offers from other prestigious programs, Coleman has unequivocally reaffirmed his allegiance to the Hurricanes.

Coleman, who committed to Miami last July, has been the subject of recruitment efforts from various programs. In a recent interview, Coleman expressed his unwavering commitment. "My commitment’s been shut down since I committed," Coleman said. "I don’t know why schools keep offering me. I don’t wanna see no other schools. I only have one official visit. That’s Miami."

Prior to his commitment to Miami, he received offers from schools, including Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and UCF. Even after his commitment, schools like Purdue, Arizona, Auburn, and Wake Forest extended offers, bringing his total to at least 27.

As a sophomore at Jones High School, he led his team to the state semifinals, passing for 2,236 yards and 16 touchdowns. His junior year saw even greater success, with Coleman throwing for 3,412 yards and 28 touchdowns, guiding the Tigers to an undefeated regular season and a state title game appearance. Beyond regular-season play, Coleman's talents have shone brightly in elite competitions. He earned the MVP award at the Under Armour Camp Series, showcasing himself against some of the nation's top high school prospects.

Additionally, he was named On3's Top Performer at the Battle 7v7 South Florida tournament after leading Defcon United to the championship. On3 national analyst Cody Bellair lauded Coleman's performance, noting his "natural whip and ability to deliver strike after strike" and his capacity to "make throws that simply other quarterbacks can’t make." 247Sports assigned him a composite score of 0.8944, ranking him 332nd nationally, 22nd among quarterbacks, and 53rd in Florida.

In an era where decommitments are common, Coleman's steadfastness is particularly noteworthy. His unwavering commitment not only reflects his personal integrity but also the trust and rapport established between him and the Miami coaching staff.
