The final stage of Miami Hurricanes recruiting has begun, and Mario Cristobal is targeting some major flips to close out the 2027 class.

We've already touched on DJ Jacobs, the five-star EDGE, who is at Hard Rock Stadium this weekend, but the Ohio State commit is not alone. As a matter of fact, his potential future teammate, Quinton Cypher, is also in the house. Maybe Jacobs and Cypher will still be teammates and decide to wreak havoc in Coral Gables instead?

Cypher committed to the Buckeyes back in late December. He chose Ohio State over Miami, Alabama and Georgia, so the Hurricanes have always been in the mix here. They offered Cypher in January 2025, and attended a game last season. After Cypher's commitment, all news on him died down, which gave the impression that he was a solid pledge for Ohio State to play for Ryan Day.

But, as we've said before, expect a lot of movement this time of year.

Miami puts itself back in the picture with 4-star LB Quinton Cypher

Listed at 6-foot-2, 220 pounds, Cypher has the athletic profile that the Hurricanes, and pretty much everyone else in college football, are looking for. He can shoot into gaps, play off the ball and fly around from sideline-to-sideline. Cypher has the instincts to handle himself well when asked to drop into zone coverage and play the pass. There haven't been too many instances where he's been asked to stick on a running back or a tight end out in the flats, but he's got some real jump to his game.

Both 247Sports and Rivals/On3 have Cypher rated as a four-star player. The blue-chip prospect from Raleigh, N.C. is rated in the Top 200 by 247Sports and right outside that (215th overall) by Rivals/On3. Both networks rate him as a top-10 player in North Carolina and a top-20 linebacker in the country.

The offers come from everywhere: Oregon, Florida, Tennessee, Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Michigan, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and the list goes on and on. This will be Cypher's second visit to Miami and with the Early Signing Period about six weeks away, it's the final push for the Hurricanes staff to get the linebacker thinking about a potential flip.

Miami's 2027 class sits at 20 commitments

The Hurricanes' class is ranked inside the top 5 nationally, but Cristobal is far from done. There have been a couple of decommits, with defensive tackle DeMarco Jenkins flipping to SMU earlier this week. However, there has also been an addition to the class with four-star linebacker Aston Whiteside joining the group and leaving his pledge to Texas A&M behind.

Adding a second linebacker to this class would address some of the depth issues that Miami might face at the position with the eventual departures of Chase Smith and Mo Toure. The lack of athletic bodies at linebacker adds to the need to bring Cypher into this class, and getting him back on campus is a great sign.
