As of this writing, Miami and Mario Cristobal hold four verbal commitments for the 2027 class, with all of them being in-state standouts. Could verbal pledge No. 5 be on the way with another local prospect deciding he wants to play his college ball close to home?
4-star Miami commit gives concerning quote on his interest in Georgia
Things are looking that way, as Miami is making a serious push to land touted cornerback Sherrod Gourdine, a playmaker for McArthur High in nearby Hollywood. On Wednesday morning, some news came in that the Miami faithful are going to want to pay attention to. That'd be that 247Sports insiders Gaby Urrutia and Zach Blostein BOTH put in their official predictions for the youngster to commit to the Canes.
Miami football has been predicted to land in-state cornerback Sherrod Gourdine
A 5-10, 177-pounder, Gourdine has picked up 15 offers this cycle. His list includes Miami, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and others. With Florida also being in the mix, it'd make Miami landing his verbal pledge that much sweeter if it happens.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Gourdine is ranked three stars, the No. 39 athlete in the country, No. 58 prospect out of Florida and No. 547 playmaker nationally for the '27 class. What could help Miami here is that one of Gourdine's high school teammates is already Coral Gables-bound.
That'd be four-star safety Jaylyn Jones, who gave Cristobal his pledge on June 23. Since then, the elite defensive back has not wavered in his decision to play in the ACC. If anything, he could do Cristobal a favor in helping him recruit Gourdine too.
There's no set timeline for when Gourdine is going to shut down his recruitment, but with spring ball around the corner, it'd make sense for Miami to get him on campus soon for a visit. Might he end up making an announcement sooner rather than later in favor of The U? Thanks to the latest prediction from Urrutia and Blostein, it's surely something for Miami fans to get mentally ready for.
